It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your gutter’s conditions. There are several ways you can do this yourself. Here are some signs it’s time to replace your gutters.
Rust
When you see rust on your gutters, it could be an indicator of one of two things.
Your gutter’s protective coating is worn through
Your gutter’s nearing the end of its life
The rust is going to worsen, so you need to address this sooner rather than later. Replace it before some serious damage is done.
Cracking
Don’t let your gutters crack. Some small cracks can be repaired and salvaged. If the crack wraps around the entire gutter, your system is practically useless. The point of your gutters is to direct water from your roof safely away from your home. But if you have cracks, the water will seep through them and can harm your home’s foundation.
Paint Peeling
As gutters take on temperature changes, downpours, heavy winds, and everything else Mother Nature throws at it, the coatings wear down. They will show obvious signs that they need to be replaced, such as paint peeling off. This is a protective coating that is critical in order to function properly and protect your home.
Bending Or Leaning
If you have a large amount of debris that has accumulated in your gutters, this can put an overwhelming amount of weight on your system that it isn’t intended to handle. The weight will put a lot of strain on your gutters and it will look as though they’re going to give out. If you don’t address this immediately, they’ll lean and bend and eventually collapse.
If you come across any of these issues, contact a roofing professional as quickly as possible. Taking care of the problem before it gets worse can save you a lot of money down the road.
